Los Angeles City Hall
When it was built in 1926-28, the City Hall (situated in the middle of the Civic Center at 200 North Spring Street) was the first building to exceed the maximum height of thirteen storeys which was permitted at that time. As this building regulation was not revoked until 1957, it required a special public referendum before the City Hall could be built to a height of 27 storeys.

The eclectic-monumental building style can be attributed mainly to its pyramid-shaped tower and the Egyptian, Greek and Roman elements. From the verandah of the 27th floor, entry to which is free, there is a beautiful view over Los Angeles and the surrounding mountains, especially when the weather is clear and smog-free. Upon entering the City Hall you are greeted by a hologram portrait of the mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Inside there is no lack of fine building materials. A tiled dome above the entrance rotunda and all kinds of marble pillars are examples of the luxurious way this building is furbished.
