Los Angeles - Japanese American Cultural and Community Center
|
|
Started in 1980, JACCC began to highlight Japanese and Japanese American heritage and cultural arts.
The plaza and rock sculpture were designed by Isamu Noguchi and the James Irvine Garden. The Seiryuen (Garden of the Clear Stream) includes rocks from Mount Baldy as well as local and traditional Japanese plants.
Other exhibits include a calligraphy center; an 841-seat Japan America Theater presenting traditional and contemporary performing arts; and the George J. Doizaki Gallery.
The Franklin D. Murphy Library contains 10,000 books and magazines in Japanese and English. It's open by appointment only.
