Description
(Local Name: Semana Santa) The celebrations of Holy Week in Lorca, which are among the most splendid in Spain, have a long tradition behind them. Two brotherhoods, the "Blues" (Azules) and the "Whites" (Blancos), seek year by year to outdo each other in the magnificence with which they deck their pasos (life-size figures associated with Christ's Passion), crosses, etc., in valuable fabrics, embroideries and other precious materials and the lavishness of their contribution to the procession which enacts the mystery play of the Passion, complete with Roman soldiers, the populace looking on and the suffering figure of Christ.
