Lisbon - Zoological Garden

(Local Name: Jardim Zoológico) Lisbon Zoo was first founded in 1884 but had to change its location twice before it opened its gates here in 1905. The site has some very fine old animal houses, cages and aviaries; animals from all over the world are kept and cared for here. A dogs' cemetery at the north end of the zoo is a very strange feature.

By following a trail of brown arrows through the zoo grounds the most important animal enclosures and further attractions are reached. The zoo can also be toured in a small train.
