Description
An excursion by boat to the rocky island of Basiluzzo, 3.5km/2mi northeast and 165m/540ft above sea-level, will be found most worthwhile. Characterized by bizarre lava formations it also has ruins from prehistorical and Roman times surrounded by gum-yielding trees, bramble-like shrubs and rosemary bushes. One large ruin - probably the remains of a Roman harbor - can be seen on the sea-bottom near the landing-stage.
