Lincoln - Lower Town
Lincoln's busy modern lower town forms a striking contrast with the peaceful and picturesque old town around the cathedral. Starting from the High Street, the first church to be seen is St Peter-at-Gowts, which has a Saxon tower. A short distance away is St Mary's Guildhall (1180-1190), a fine example of Norman secular architecture, originally a royal storehouse then a guildhall, with notable Roman excavations.
