Lillehammer - Surroundings

From Maihaugen Park in Lillehammer a road runs up to the southeast, passing the Langseth Hotel (alt. 350m/1,150ft) and the little lake of Bådshaugtjern (585m/1,919ft), and soon afterwards crosses the Bustokelv, which flows out of Lake Sødre Mesna (512m/1,680ft), on the right, into Lake Nordre Mesna (511m/1,677ft). Beyond Mesnalien (520m/1,706ft) the road turns north and continues climbing.

Nordseter
The road from Sjusjøen runs into another coming from Lillehammer. Along this, to the left, is Nordseter (786m/2,580ft), from which it is a rewarding 1.25 hours' climb to the summit of Neverfjell (1,086m/3,563ft; wide views). The road then runs down to Lillehammer through forest country.

Sjusjøen
The Lillehammer road runs past the Sjusjø (795m/2,608ft) and comes to the village of Sjusjøen (830m/2,723ft), with hotels and numerous huts and summer chalets. Beyond this point the road is narrow but still negotiable. Then in another 6km/4mi turn into a road on the left which follows the south side of the Mellsjø (893m/2,930ft).
