Lier - Zimmertoren

The Zimmerplein extends southeast of the Gevangenpoort. Here stands the Zimmertoren, once part of the town's defenses and called the Corneliusturm, named after the astronomer and watchmaker Louis Zimmer (1880-1970). On its facade is his centenary clock from 1930 with 13 dials and scales: Greenwich Mean Time, day and night, zodiac, solar cycle, week days, the earth's meridian, months, date, seasons, tides, ages of the moon, phases of the moon and the metonic cycle. Every day at noon figures appear on the right facade. Inside the tower the clock mechanism and an astronomic studio with 57 dials can be seen.
