Lake Winnipesaukee

In the centre of the lake district to the south of the White Mountains is Lake Winnipesaukee, which attracts large numbers of visitors, particularly in summer. Weirs Beach, on the west side of the lake, has the widest range of leisure and recreational facilities (two water parks, bathing beaches, steamer trips) but is also the most crowded resort. Quieter places are the old bathing resort of Wolfsboro on the east side of the lake, and also Center Sandwich, Tamworth and Ossippee, with their numerous pretty antique shops. A peaceful, if somewhat antiquated way of life can be led in Canterbury Shaker Village. Laconia is the largest village in the region.
