Plitvice Lakes National Park

The beautiful Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of Croatia's biggest inland tourist attractions. The park, in the Lika region, contains a series of waterfalls which link the 16 turquoise color lakes between Mala Kapela and Pljesevica Mountains.

A trail with walking bridges follows the lakes and rivers. There is a well established route which begins at Labudovac Falls, which receives water from the highest of the lakes, Proscansko Jezero.

Must-see attractions nearby:
From this point you can do a walk, boat ride combination which will take you past falls, streams and lakes, to the lowest Lake, Kaluderovac. There are national park buses which drop visitors at the top and pick up at the bottom, returning people back to the park entrance. This complete trip takes about six hours.

There are lots of walking opportunities in the park, as well as accommodation for those who want to spend a few days. The busiest time for the park is summer. In winter the park receives snow and in January and December the lakes may be covered in ice.
