Kuusamo - Surroundings

Kuusamo is a good base from which to explore the natural beauties of the surrounding area, either by car or on foot. The scenery of this region is given its particular stamp by the contrast between the extensive areas of water and bogland and the tracts of rocky country. The lakes are frequently edged by sheer granite cliffs, and in many places the rivers are hemmed in by rocks, flowing through deep gorges and over rapids.
