Description
In the area around Kristianstad there are many old castles and churches. 3km/2mi south are the ruins of Lillhöhusborg, birthplace of Herluf Trolle, a well-known Danish nobleman. 6km/4mi south is Norra Åsum church, built in 1200 by Bishop Absalon of Roskilde in Denmark. There are interesting medieval churches at Färlöv, Kiaby, Vittskövle and Fjälkinge. To the south of the town can be found the castles of Malteshol, on Linderödsåsen, and Vittskövle, and the Forsaker falls (10m/35ft high), in a beautiful wooded setting. On the coast is Åhus, a fishing village and seaside resort with an eel-smoking factory.
