In Kristianstad's Östra Storgatan is a Film Museum, housed in the studios in which the first Swedish films were shot. At Västra Storgatan 40 is Cardell House (1760), with a beautifully carved doorway. This was the home of General Cardell, who is said to have had the street closed to traffic so that his afternoon nap should not be disturbed. At Västra Storgatan 39 can be seen a house which was occupied by Charles XII about 1700 and by Stanislaus Leszczynski, the exiled king of Poland, from 1711 to 1714.
