Wildgerlostal River

Wildgerlostal finds its way up from Gerlos by way of the Durlassboden reservoir (1,376m/4,515ft; rowing and sailing) to the Zittauer Hütte (2,329m/7,641ft), magnificently set near the Gerlosseen (Upper and Lower Gerlos Lakes) at the foot of the Reichspitze. There are excellent skiing grounds on the northern foothills of the Reichenspitze group, on the gently sloping Gerlosplatte near Krimml.

From the Durlassboden reservoir, it is 2.5 hours' walk to the Alpengasthof Finkau, from which it is another 3.5 hours to the Zittauer Hütte (2,329m/7,641ft; inn), on the Unterer Gerlossee, in a magnificent setting at the head of the valley.
