Description
20 km/12.5 mi southeast of Kozáni extends the long artificial lake formed by the damming of the Aliakmon. There is an attractive trip (70 km/45 mi) round the lake. Leave Kozáni on the Lárisa road, which runs southeast by way of Petraná and Vathylakkos, crosses the lake on a curving bridge over 2km/1.25 mi long and bears southwest at Sérvia. Soon after this turn off the main road, which continues into the hills, into a side road on the right which leads along the south side of the lake to the village of Rymnio, beyond which it again crosses the lake (narrower at this point) and comes to Aianí (several churches, with 15th and 16th C. frescoes). Just outside the village, above the left bank of the Aliakmon, is the Zavorda monastery, founded in the 16th century.
