Rajnis Jozsef utca Description
József Rájnis Street, leading northwards from the northwest corner of Jurisics tér, was named after the Jesuit monk and writer József Koszegi Rájnis, who translated ancient Greek and Latin literature into Hungarian. Here, too, will be found some houses, originally medieval (built close together in step-like fashion for defensive reasons), later converted to Baroque or Classical. The best-known is No. 2 near St James' Church, built in 1677-80 to plans by the Italian architect Pietro Orsolini and which served first the Jesuits and later the Benedictines as a priory. It became a famous center of learning, and numbered many major academics and artists among its students and tutors.
