King's Lynn - Guildhall of the Holy Trinity

Opposite St Margaret's Church is the Guildhall of the Holy Trinity of 1421, in a striking chequered flint pattern. The treasury in the basement has housed a fine collection of regalia since 1978, including a valuable cup and a sword which are said to have belonged to King John. His crown jewels and treasure are supposed to lie buried in the Wash, lost in flight when caught by an unexpectedly high tide. The king died of dysentery a few days later.
