Key Biscayne - Flagler Memorial Monument

Flagler Island is an artificial island that was built in 1920.

This site honors railroad baron and Standard Oil partner Henry Flagler, who, along with Julia Tuttle, is responsible for the development of Southern Florida. Flagler extended the railway to Miami, based on advice from Tuttle, which opened the region up to expansion and helped make it into the tourist mecca it is today.
