The Aberdares Attractions
The Aberdares are the third highest mountain range in Kenya. The high altitude forests provide sensational views of the Rift Valley and the peak of Mt Kenya. Due to the thick vegetation, wildlife can move through the undergrowth almost unseen - this includes elephants, lions, leopards and buffalo. A number of rare or endangered species can be found around the Aberdares range including Sunni Buck, Mt Kenya Mole Shrew, skinks (lizard), and a variety of owls. Occasionally the albino zebra has been sighted.
The evening is the best time to view the animals as they venture out to the salt licks and water holes.
The Aberdares also has spectacular waterfalls, including the famous Thompson's Falls.
