Description
(Local Name: Schloss / Badisches Landesmuseum) In the center of Karlsruhe is the spacious Schlossplatz, with the Schloss (Grand-Ducal Palace), built by Friedrich von Kesslau between 1752 and 1785, partly on the basis of plans by Balthasar Neumann. It now contains the richly stocked Landesmuseum (prehistory and early historical period, antiquities, applied art, folk art and traditions, Art Nouveau collection). Behind the palace lie the extensive gardens (Schlossgarten), with the Orangery (part of the Landesmuseum) and the Botanic Garden. To the north of the Schlossgarten can be found the State Majolica Manufactory (Staatliche Majolika-Manufaktur; guided visits).
