Description
From the Wasserfallboden reservoir the road continues for another 5km/ 3mi, at first running along the western side of the reservoir (fine views of the head of the valley) and then climbing in two sharp bends to the Heidnische Kirche ("Pagan Church", 2,051m/6,729ft). This was a secret meeting- place for Protestants during the Counter-Reformation. Here the road comes to an end, with a fine view to the rear over the reservoir towards the Steinernes Meer. The Mooserboden reservoir (2,036m/6,680ft), formed by the Mooser (110m/360ft high) and Drossen dams, has a capacity of 85.4million cubic meters/18,785million gallons and is linked with the Margaritze reservoir on the Glockner Road by a tunnel 11.5km/7miles long.
