Leavenworth Attractions
Leavenworth (pop. 35,000) is located on on the west bank of the Missouri River. It is the oldest city in Kansas, incorporated in 1854. It became the headquarters of Russell, Majors & Waddell overland transporation system.
Carroll Mansion
The Carroll Mansion in Leavenworth is a 16-room Victorian home, built in 1867, and furnished as it would have been in the 19th C. It is the home of the Leavenworth County Historical Society.

Fort Leavenworth
Fort Leavenworth is said to be the oldest active Army post west of the Mississippi River. During the early years, soldiers from Fort Leavenworth protected wagon trains hauling supplies over the Santa Fe, Oregon and other trails to most forts, posts and military camps of the West. Highlights include Santa Fe and Oregon Trail markers, Post Chapel and the 15-acre Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Fort Leavenworth - Frontier Army Museum
The Frontier Army Museum at Fort Leavenworth displays collections of 19th C military artifacts including items from Frontier Army soldiers who served west of the Mississippi River between 1804 and 1917.
