Hainault Tourist Mine Description
The Hainault Tourist Mine was opened up by Harry Sutton in 1893, and until it was closed down in 1968 yielded great quantities of gold. The mine still operates as a tourist attraction. Visitors are taken down in a lift cage to a depth of 60m and see gold being hewn from the rock. They are also shown the power station and the original machinery.
