Khor Kalba Conservation Reserve, south of Kalba, is noted as the most northerly mangrove forests in the world and the oldest in Arabia.
Khor Kalba is known as a birdwatcher's paradise, especially during spring and fall migration. The rare white-collared Kingfisher is a breeding resident of Khor Kalba Conservation Reserve along with the reef herons and booted warblers.
The mangrove swamps of Khor Kalba provide for rich plant and marine life that are not found in the other Emirates. Visitors can hire boats from local fishermen to paddle through the scenic mangroves or take part in a narrated canoe trip.
