Kahramanmaras - Citadel

The castle of Maras dominates the old town of Kahramanmaras and much of the land has been given over to gardens and popular cafes. The original building, probably Byzantine, is thought to have been constructed on Hittite remains, but it was altered considerably during Ottoman times. A part of the dilapidated castle is now an archeological museum with displays of excavated finds from the surrounding area.
