Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Description
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse 105 ft (31m) conical tower was built in 1860, making it one of Palm Beach County's oldest buildings. It is located near the junction of the Loxhatchee and Indian Rivers. Between 1861 and 1866, the light was extinguished because the keepers wanted to help Confederate ships break the Union blockade in place during the Civil War. It is still in operation today and is maintained by the Coast Guard. The former oil house has been turned into a museum.
