The Seckau Benedictine Abbey Cathedral, originally Romanesque (consecrated 1164), was roofed with Gothic vaulting between 1480-1510 and was further altered in the 19th and 20th C. In the northern aisle of the basilica with its stout columns is the Renaissance Mausoleum (1587-99) of Archduke Charles II; the choir contains a Crucifixion group of the 12th-13th C. (restored in the 20th C.); in the Angels' Chapel is a cycle of modern frescos (by H. Böckl, 1952-60) depicting the Apocalypse.
