The Johnstown Flood National Memorial spans 165 acres and preserves the remains of the South Fork Dam and portions of the former Lake Conemaugh bed, the site of a tragic flood on May 31, 1889 that claimed 2,209 lives. At the Visitor Center, a 35-minute film recreates the Great Flood of 1889 and is shown daily.
