Northwest of the Alcázar in Jerez de la Frontera stands the Baroque collegiate church of San Salvador (begun 1695), built on the foundations of an earlier mosque. From the free-standing bell-tower there are very fine views. The church, which is approached by a Baroque staircase, contains a painting by Zurbarán.
