(Local Name: Markt) The Markt, the only part of Jena's old town which escaped destruction by bombing during the Second World War, is now protected as a historic monument. On its southwest side stands the Late Gothic Town Hall (Rathaus), a double building with two hipped roofs. On the tower is a clock with mechanical figures.
