Goetheallee Description
At Goetheallee 23 in Jena is the imposing Baroque building of the "Second University", which until 1908 was the main University building. At No. 18 is the house of the Frommann family, which in Goethe's time was frequented by the leading intellectual figures of the day, including Goethe himself.

The site of the old ducal pleasure garden is now occupied by the Botanic Garden, with 12,000 plants from all over the world, an alpine garden with 2,000 species of plant and an arboretum with some 800 species of deciduous and coniferous trees.

The house once occupied by the Inspector of the Botanic Garden (Goetheallee 26), where Goethe frequently stayed, now houses a Goethe Memorial Museum (Goethe-Gedenkstätte).
