Jackson (pop. 3,545) is located 40mi/64km southeast of Sacramento. It is the county seat of Amador County and features buildings from the Gold Rush period. There is a walking tour of 20 of the town's vintage homes as well as tours of a 6,000-foot deep mine shaft north of town.
