Peruíbe

29km/18mi south-west of Itanhaém on SP 55, 142km/88mi from São Paulo, is the spa and bathing resort of Peruíbe (pop. 20,000), which was founded about 1530. Its sulphurous springs and therapeutic mud baths draw many visitors.

Abarebebê

From the hill of Guarau, 3km/2mi from the town center, there is a fine view of Peruíbe. 9km/5.6mi from the town is the ruined church of Abarebebà, built of stone and shells - perhaps the earliest in the whole of Brazil.
Beaches
Beaches

There are dozens of beaches round Peruíbe. To the north are Samburá (7km/4.3mi), Arpoador (10km/6mi), Oásis (12km/7.5mi), Abarebebà (13km/8mi), Tapirema (15km/9.3mi) and Convento (19km/11.8mi). The wilder beaches lie to the south of the town. Easily accessible are Parque Turístico (1km/.7mi), Costão (2.5km/1.6mi) and Prainha (4km/2.5mi). The beaches beyond the village of Guaraú are in Juréia Park, the large nature reserve in southern São Paulo.
