San Quirico d'Orcia Attractions
The little town of San Quírico d'Orcia lies above the valleys of the Orcia and Asso, some 45km/28mi southeast of Siena.
History
In Roman times there was a settlement here, known as Vicus Alecinus, on the Via Cassia. During the Middle Ages the town was long the residence of an Imperial Vicar (governor); then in 1256 it came under the control of Siena. It remained with this city republic and with it passed into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

Palazzo Chigi
Near the church in San Quírico d'Orcia is the Palazzo Chigi, in pure Baroque style, built by Carlo Fontana about 1680. It suffered considerable damage during the Second World War.
