The picturesque little country town of Mussomeli is situated about 53km/33mi north of Agrigento, in the interior of Sicily, under the summit of Monte San Vito (895m/2,936ft).
Mussomeli itself has developed some distance away from the castle. The cathedral has a Rococo facade. The Church of San Domenico and the Palazzo Trabia, in which a collection of paintings is housed, also date from the Baroque period.
