Situation
The town of Colle di Val d'Elsa lies almost in the center of Tuscany, some 45km/28mi south of Florence.
The town
Colle di Val d'Elsa consists of a modern lower town, the Colle Basso or Piano, in the plain and the old upper town or Colle Alto.

Colle Alto

The upper town of Colle di Val d'Elsa has preserved its medieval aspect and remains of its 13th century walls. In the Piazza del Duomo stands the cathedral, built in 1619, which contains a Crucifix attributed to the sculptor Giambologna (Giovanni di Bologna, 1529-1608).

Museo Archeológico

Adjoining the cathedral in Colle di Val d'Elsa is the Palazzo Pretorio (originally 13th century), with the Museo Archeológico (material from a nearby Etruscan cemetery).

Bishops Palace

The Palazzo Vescovile (Bishop's Palace) contains a small collection of religious art.

Municipal Museum

The Museo Civico (Municipal Museum; pictures, etc.) in Colle di Val d'Elsa is housed in the Palazzo dei Priori.

Surroundings

Monteriggioni

The little town of Monteriggioni is impressively situated on a hill above the Elsa Valley. It is surrounded by a complete circuit of 13th century walls, perfectly preserved, with 14 square towers which can be seen from a considerable distance away.
