Abbey of the Saviour
Although the abbey was founded in the mid 8th C, the only remaining church dates to the 11th C. It was one of the most prosperous and well known abbeys during its time.
Crypt
The most impressive feature of the abbey is the Crypt, which was given its present form in 1036 but was probably the original pre-Romanesque church. It was originally divided into 13 aisles. The groined vaulting is borne on columns of varied form, many of them with richly decorated capitals.
Old Town
The center of Abbadia San Salvatore has preserved its medieval character. A notable feature is the borgo (walled village), originally held by the Counts of Santa Fiora, which passed into the hands of Siena in 1347 and later into the possession of the Médici family.
