En Boqeq Attractions
En Boqeq, a tourist center and spa on the southwestern shore of the Dead Sea, has a warm mineral spring which has been used for therapeutic purposes since ancient times. Thanks to the extraordinary climatic conditions and the unique properties of the water of the Dead Sea, En Boqeq has had remarkable success in the treatment particularly of skin diseases.
The deeper layers of water in the Dead Sea, with their very high salt content, store up heat which is used in the production of electric power.
The town
En Boqeq is a town of hotels and spa establishments. To the north of the town are the remains of a fortress (Mezad Boqeq) built by the kings of Judah to provide protection against Moabite attacks.

Mezad Zohar
A footpath (3km/2mi) runs up the gorge of the river Zohar, which flows into the Dead Sea at Newe Zohar, to Mezad Zohar, a stronghold situated on a conical crag amid magnificent mountain scenery which was held by the Nabataeans and later by the Byzantines. A fine view of the castle can be had by driving up the road from Newe Zohar to Arad as far as the second viewpoint (on right). From the lower viewpoint there is a magnificent prospect of the Dead Sea and the hills of Jordan.
Newe Zohar
8km/5mi south of En Boqeq, on the Dead Sea, is Newe Zohar, with several hot mineral springs. This is also a much frequented spa, with a lakeside restaurant and a petrol station. The Bet Hayozer Museum has informative displays on the characteristics and the economic value of the Dead Sea.
