Jerusalem, the heart of Israel, is considered sacred by several religions; Muslims, Jews and Christians all visit this ancient city to pay homage to their respective sanctuaries. Revered for its plethora of mosques, synagogues and churches, Jerusalem is home to many top-rated cultural attractions. Amongst the most sacred sites in the city, is the Al-Aqsa Mosque with its accompanying Dome of Rock, which is a prominent sanctuary in Islamic history. Other notable cultural establishments in the city include the Yad Vashem, a memorial site honoring Jewish victims killed in the Holocaust, and The Western Wall. The Western Wall is built on the periphery of the Old town and allows visitors to walk along it and witness beautiful views over the town. Jerusalem offers some of the best hotels in Israel, many of which are located in and around the Old Town. These include independent, family-run establishments which tend to be more affordable while still comfortable and typically found in the heart of the old town. The more luxurious five-star, luxury hotels such as the landmark King David Hotel are situated in the extended Old Town area.
