Description
The bizarrely-shaped Needles, three massive offshore chalk rocks, lie off the west tip of the island and are an impressive sight. They reach a height of 100ft/30m. A good view of the Needles can be had from the "Needles Batteries", a fortress complex dating from the end of the 19th century, which was put into use in both World Wars I and II.
