Isla Mujeres - Caves of the Sleeping Sharks
Farther out from El Garrafón lies a reef known as Los Manchones which attracts many diving enthusiasts. For experienced scuba divers a boat trip can be arranged to the Caves of the Sleeping Sharks, 20-30 m (65-100 ft) under water, which were discovered in the late 1960s by a local fisherman and became widely known through television films.
On the way to El Garrafón those interested in animals might care to visit the turtle farm and the marine biology station in the centre of the island. In the latter fish and amphibians are displayed and there are regular performances by dolphins, sea-lions and sea-elephants.
