Bantry House
On the outskirts of the town of Bantry, set in a beautiful park, is Bantry House. Both the park and the house are open to the public. The house was altered in 1771 by the first Earl of Bantry, and in 1840 was enlarged by the addition of two side wings into a long and finely proportioned building of 14 bays. It contains a valuable art collection from all over Europe (icons, tapestries, French furniture). The stables are of notable architectural quality.
The park, with Italian-style terraces and statues, is laid out on the slopes of the hill. From the terraces there are extensive views over Bantry Bay with its islands and inlets.
