Sioux City Attractions

Sioux City lies on the border with Nebraska, in the heart of Indian country. Here was buried Sergeant Charles Floyd, the only casualty of Lewis and Clark's expedition from the Mississippi to the Pacific in 1804-5. Woodbury Country Courthouse, a long, low brick structure, is the largest building so far erected by Chicago's "Prairie school" of architecture.
Sioux City (pop. 85,000) is the county seat of Woodbury County in northwest Iowa.
Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center
The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center in Sioux City presents displays about the nearby Loess Hills, which were formed many thousands of years ago by the deposition of windblown soil. Native prairie and woodland areas feature many rare species of wildflowers, such as yucca, skeleton plant, and buffalo berry.
