Sioux City lies on the border with Nebraska, in the heart of Indian country. Here was buried Sergeant Charles Floyd, the only casualty of Lewis and Clark's expedition from the Mississippi to the Pacific in 1804-5. Woodbury Country Courthouse, a long, low brick structure, is the largest building so far erected by Chicago's "Prairie school" of architecture.
Sioux City (pop. 85,000) is the county seat of Woodbury County in northwest Iowa.
The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center in Sioux City presents displays about the nearby Loess Hills, which were formed many thousands of years ago by the deposition of windblown soil. Native prairie and woodland areas feature many rare species of wildflowers, such as yucca, skeleton plant, and buffalo berry.

The Sergeant Floyd Monument in Sioux City is a 100ft/30m white stone obelisk that memorializes Sgt Charles Floyd, who died on the 1804 Lewis and Clark Expedition. The obelisk marks the burial place of Sgt Floyd.
The Sergeant Floyd Riverboat served the US Army Corps of Engineers. Now permanently dry-docked in Sioux City, the ship houses a museum and a working model-building shop where museum curators create replicas of vintage boats and ships.

The development of Trinity Heights is located on 70 acres in the northeast corner of Sioux City. Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of Peace, a 30 foot stainless steel statue is joined by The Sacred Heart of Jesus, a 33 foot statue stand above walkways with prayer stations.
