McGregor Attractions
McGregor (pop. 870) began as a ferry boat landing on the Mississippi River that Alexander MacGregor and Thomas Burnett established in 1837. Eventually it became an important shipping depot.
Pikes Peak State Park is the site of earthen "effigy" mounds in the shapes of animals that were sculpted by Native Americans of the Woodland Culture from 800 to 1200 A.D. Along the trails, hikers will see sheer walls of Decorah limestone, and fossil remains including brachiopods, gastropods and cephalopods.

Spook Cave is located west of McGregor. It was often referred to by early settlers because of strange noises coming from a hole at the base of the hill. Gerald Mielke discovered the cave and visitors can tour the cave in electrically powered boats.
