The Lacey-Keosauqua State Park has a series of 19 mounds, overlooking the Des Moines River. They were built by an ancient group of Woodland Culture Indians in order to bury their dead. The park is a wildlife sanctuary and offers hiking trails that allow visitors to see the many animals.
