Keokuk Attractions
Keokuk (pop. 11,000) was a place where Native American Indians hunted and fished. Keokuk's early economy was dominated by fur trading and after its decline, the transportation of freight and passengers around the rapids. The town is noted for the scenery and heritage, including the examples of Victorian architecture.
The George M Verity Riverboat Museum tells the story of the Verity which was one of the first steamboats to move barges on the Mississippi between St Louis and St Paul. This steam-powered, sternwheeler contains photographs and models of river subjects.

Chief Kiyo' kaga for whom Keokuk is named, is buried at the site of a monument in Rand Park. The park was formed in 1882 and features formal flower gardens and a panoramic view of the Mississippi River.
