Kalona Attractions
Kalona (pop. 2,300) is known as the "Quilt Capital of Iowa" and has a large Amish community. The traditional folkways and culture of this group are found throughout the region.
The Kalona Historical Village includes 13 restored period buildings, complete with antique furnishings, agricultural equipment, and railroad memorabilia. Among the buildings are a typical 1890s one-room country store, a one-room schoolhouse, an 1850s post office, and a buggy shop.
The Mennonite Museum and Archives displays the history and lifestyles of the Mennonite and Amish culture.
