Dyersville (pop. 4,000) was founded in 1848 and is known as the "Farm Toy Capital of the World" because of the three local toy companies. The town was the site of the 1989 movie "Field of Dreams."
The baseball diamond in Dyersville carved from the middle of a cornfield has been preserved as it was for the movie "Field of Dreams". Visitors can bring baseball equipment to bat a few balls, play catch, run the bases or sit on the bleachers.
The Dyer-Botsford Historical House was built by James Dyer, the founder of Dyersville in 1847. The rooms are furnished with period antiques and decorated with Victorian wallpaper. More than 1,000 dolls are displayed amid old buggies, cradles and other toys in the upstairs.
