Coralville (pop. 17,000) began as a campsite in 1856 for 1,500 Mormons readying for the trek to Salt Lake City. At that time, the town was the western terminus for the railroad.
The Heritage Museum is housed in the 1876 Old Coralville Public School. Exhibits include a turn-of-the-century school room with period furnishings and school materials.

The Iowa Children's Museum in Coralville features interactive galleries filled with hands-on exhibits and activities in it's 28,000 square feet facility. Children can build a race car, make their own video and explore in the water play area. The museum is intended for children up to age 12.
