Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower
The Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower was given to the people of Jefferson and Greene County in accordance with wills of Mr and Mrs Floyd Mahanay. The tower is built of glass and ceramic cement and features 14 bells that chime on the hour, quarter and half-hour.
Telephone Museum

Fort Dodge, Iowa
Fort Dodge (pop. 25,000) is located atop a gypsum bed on the Des Moines River. Originally established as Fort Clarke, the name was changed in 1851 in honor of Henry Dodge, the US senator who fought in the Black Hawk and other Indian wars. The town was laid out in 1854.
Fort Museum

Pammel State Park

Spirit Lake Fish Hatchery

The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum has three halls of fame, a theater, a library, Olympic and NCAA pavilions, as well as a training facility complete with wrestling mat, bleachers, locker rooms and sauna. Wrestling was the first sport mentioned in the Bible and the history goes back well over 5,000 years.

DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge
The DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge serves as a stopover for migrating ducks and geese during their fall migration between the Arctic nesting grounds and the Gulf Coast wintering areas. The 1860-era sternwheeler Bertrand was discovered on the refuge in 1968 and unearthed, visitors can view the discovery site.
DeSoto Visitor Center

Pikes Peak State Park
Pikes Peak State Park is the site of earthen "effigy" mounds in the shapes of animals that were sculpted by Native Americans of the Woodland Culture from 800 to 1200 A.D. Along the trails, hikers will see sheer walls of Decorah limestone, and fossil remains including brachiopods, gastropods and cephalopods.
Spook Cave
Spook Cave is located west of McGregor. It was often referred to by early settlers because of strange noises coming from a hole at the base of the hill. Gerald Mielke discovered the cave and visitors can tour the cave in electrically powered boats.
Keokuk, Iowa
Keokuk (pop. 11,000) was a place where Native American Indians hunted and fished. Keokuk's early economy was dominated by fur trading and after its decline, the transportation of freight and passengers around the rapids. The town is noted for the scenery and heritage, including the examples of Victorian architecture.
George M Verity Riverboat Museum
The George M Verity Riverboat Museum tells the story of the Verity which was one of the first steamboats to move barges on the Mississippi between St Louis and St Paul. This steam-powered, sternwheeler contains photographs and models of river subjects.

Western Historic Trails Center

General Grenville M Dodge was chief construction engineer of the Union Pacific Railway. Built in 1869, Dodge's Victorian home is a fourteen room, three story mansion with parquet floors, cherry, walnut, and butternut woodwork.
Historic Pottawattamie County Jail
Pottawattamie Jail in Council Bluffs is also known as the "Squirrel Cage". It has three floors of revolving pie-shaped cells inside a cage. The jail was built in 1885 to control prisoners with minimum attention from the jailer.
Kanesville Tabernacle
The Kanesville Tabernacle was built in Council Bluffs in 1847 by 200 Mormon pioneers. A replica of the building stands today as a reminder of the First Presidency which the members sustained on Brigham Young.

The Iowa Children's Museum in Coralville features interactive galleries filled with hands-on exhibits and activities in it's 28,000 square feet facility. Children can build a race car, make their own video and explore in the water play area. The museum is intended for children up to age 12.

Arnolds Park, Iowa
Arnolds Park (pop. 1,100) was founded in 1860 by WB Arnold. The area became known for its recreational opportunities after the arrival of the train in 1883. The first amusement park ride was created by Arnold during the 1890s when a waterslide was created. Visitors would slide out into the lake on a toboggan.
Abbie Gardner State Historic Site
The Abbie Gardner State Historic Site is known as one of the sites of the 1857 "Spirit Lake Massacre". Abbie was taken captive during this uprising with the Dakota Indians and eventually released. The cabin was built in 1856 by Rowlan Gardner, Abbie's father. The displays and furnishings are typical of pioneer life.
Arnolds Park Amusement Park
The Amusement Park at Arnolds Park has over 30 rides and attractions including a Giant Ferris Wheel and the Legendary Roller Coaster. The Maritime Museum, located within the park, features a wooden boat display, as well as lake and amusement park memorabilia.

Anamosa, Iowa

Anamosa State Penitentiary Museum
The Anamosa State Penitentiary is currently Iowa's largest correctional institution with over 1200 inmates. It has been in operation since 1873. The Penitentiary museum, opened in 2001, is located outside the Anamosa Penitentiary walls, but on the prison grounds. Prison life is highlighted through photographs, a replica cell, and a prison history video.
Grant Wood Gallery
Grant Wood is known for his work titled American Gothic. The Grant Wood Gallery in Anamosa is housed in an old bank building constructed in 1884. The collection includes historical photos of Grant Wood and his artist colony, books, prints, posters and notecards as well as a short film on his life and art.
National Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame
The National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa was founded in 1989. It features a collection of vintage motorcycles, photographs, posters, postcards and pieces of motorcycle memorabilia.

Iowa State University was founded in 1858 and was the birthplace of the electronic digital computer. The Atanasoff-Berry Computer was built from 1937 to 1942. Other highlights of the campus include a 100-foot campanile that houses a 50-bell carillon and Reiman Gardens.
Reiman Gardens
Iowa State University's Reiman Gardens is the largest public garden in Iowa. Located immediately south of ISU's Jack Trice Football Stadium, Reiman Gardens offers 14-acres and 26 unique garden areas with seasonal displays designed around a theme that changes each year. Inside there are two large glass houses; the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing, holding one of the most diverse collections of live, exotic butterflies in the country, and an indoor Conservatory open year-round.
Brunnier Art Museum
The Brunnier Art Museum presents a decorative arts collection that includes ceramics, glass, dolls, ivory, jade, and enameled metals. The collection was donated by Iowa State alumnus Henry J Brunnier and his wife Ann - whom the museum is named for. Other exhibits include prints, paintings, sculptures, textiles, carpets, wood objects, lacquered pieces, silver, and furniture.
Farm House Museum
The Farm House Museum is located in a fourteen-room, grey-stuccoed structure that was built in 1860 and was the first building on the Iowa State University campus. The museum focuses on the first fifty years of the university, 1860 through 1910.
Dyersville, Iowa
Dyersville (pop. 4,000) was founded in 1848 and is known as the "Farm Toy Capital of the World" because of the three local toy companies. The town was the site of the 1989 movie "Field of Dreams."
Dyer-Botsford Historical House
The Dyer-Botsford Historical House was built by James Dyer, the founder of Dyersville in 1847. The rooms are furnished with period antiques and decorated with Victorian wallpaper. More than 1,000 dolls are displayed amid old buggies, cradles and other toys in the upstairs.
"Field of Dreams" Movie Site
The baseball diamond in Dyersville carved from the middle of a cornfield has been preserved as it was for the movie "Field of Dreams". Visitors can bring baseball equipment to bat a few balls, play catch, run the bases or sit on the bleachers.

The Prairie Trails Museum of Wayne County in Corydon, features more than 25,000 artifacts, which bring pioneer heritage to life. The large main brick building has five galleries covering over 21,000 sq. ft. , including an exhibit on the Mormon Trail, early 1900 Main Street, Armed Forces Gallery and a 20th Century Wing. The big red Heritage Barn contains an extensive collection of early farm implements and tools displayed in interesting interpretive exhibits. Just to the east of the barn is a picnic area where visitors can take a break in the shade of stately oak trees.

The Delaware County Historical Museum Complex consists of nine buildings, centered around the former Lenox College. Clarke Hall, the dormitory for girls, was built in 1890. Doolittle Hall, constructed in 1900, contained the Library and Literary Societies. Finkbonner Hall (the gymnasium) was erected in 1916. The Reformed Presbyterian Church, with the Bavarian stained-glass windows, was dedicated in 1901.
Country Relics Village, Stanhope, Iowa
The Country Relics Village near Stanhope is a scaled down version of an early 1900s village. The buildings are furnished with period children's furnishings, salesman's samples, and toys. The complex is also home to the original Stanhope Chicago Northwestern Depot and a replica of the Hove and Mathre McCormick Machines dealership.
Grotto of the Redemption, West Bend, Iowa
The Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend was started in 1912 by Father Paul Dobberstein. He worked on the Grotto for 42 years, until his death, at which time Father Louis Greving took over. Deacon Gerald Streit continues the building and maintenance. The Grotto of the Redemption is a composite of nine separate Grottos - each portraying some scene in the life of Christ.

Camp Algona saw 10,000 German prisoners of war from 1944 to 1946. The display tells the story of the camp and its effect on the town and the military. Exhibits at the POW Museum include German artifacts, weapons, WW II uniforms as well as paintings and woodcarving.

Cedar Rock - Walter Residence, Quasqueton, Iowa
Cedar Rock was the Quasqueton home of Lowell and Agnes Walter and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright from 1948-1950. Wright designed the furniture, selected the carpets, chose the draperies and even picked out the accessories. The Walter house is an example of a style called "Usonian".

The Parker Museum was built in Spencer in 1916 for the Roy and Lola Webb family. The Parker family bought the home from the Webbs in 1929. The museum features a one-room school, 1918 fire truck, a blacksmith shop and a collection of agricultural tools.

The Herbert Hoover National Historic Site features buildings and grounds preserved in memory of the 31st President of the United States. The small cottage where Hoover was born in 1874, a blacksmith shop similar to the one owned by his father, the first West Branch schoolhouse, and the Friends Meetinghouse where the Hoover family worshipped are located on the grounds.
